Merkel Furniture & Carpet One has been in its current location in downtown Chelsea Michigan since 1924, and is the oldest, most experienced Home furnishings company in Michigan. Since 1924, Merkel has grown from a small town hardware store in Chelsea, to two locations-our beautiful furniture and flooring store in Chelsea and flooring only store in Ann Arbor. The tradition of high quality furniture and flooring remains strong throughout the entire company from the sales staff to the utmost in delivery and installation teams in the business. We are a full service company that prides ourselves on customer service before and after the sale.

Still family owned, Merkel's growth can be attributed to always giving customer service top priority. Tim Merkel, a third-generation owner, manages the furniture products in Chelsea, while his partner Fred Zuidveld oversees the flooring operations for both stores.

We carry Stainmaster, Karastan, Masland, Lees, Beaulieu,Gulistan, Bigelow, and Shaw, Mohawk, Godfrey Hirst, and many others, including green eco-friendly carpet in nylon, wool carpet, and pet polyester as well as Sorona Smartstrand by Dupont.

We also carry flooring brands like Armstrong vinyl flooring, Armstrong laminate flooring, Pergo, Wilsonart, Quick Step, Wicanders cork, Wecork, Natural cork, Eco-friendly linoleum by Forbo, and Marmoleum.
