Hudson Country Montessori School was founded in September of 1972 in New Rochelle, New York. The founder of the school, Mrs. Musya Meyer, had worked as a preschool teacher at the only Montessori school in Westchester County, NY until it was closed. In the early 1980's Mrs. Meyer stopped teaching full-time to focus on expanding the school. Mr. Meyer, who had worked part-time with his mother for years, joined the school as a full time administrator and opened the Danbury campus of the school in September 1995. The vision for the Danbury site was to revive Maria Montessori's original classroom model where childcare and education were combined in an extended day program for the children of working parents. The school has grown to its present size of over 190 students ages 8 weeks to 13 years old.
