About Guglhupf Bakery & Restaurant

Having grown up in Germany with farmers markets and an abundance of local specialized food purveyors such as bakers, butchers, cheese shops, local farmers and green grocers, Claudia Kemmet-Cooper, Guglhupfs founder and owner, learned early on that food was so much more than just sustenance. Meal times were communal, and foods were carefully sought out and prepared by the women in her family. As with many traditional southern German families, food was often the center of social events or gatherings.


After brushing shoulders with the corporate world, Claudia quickly turned back to the comforts of the kitchen Completing her formal training in baking and pastry at Rischarts in Munich, Claudia, and her then business partner and co-founder, Hartmut Jahn, began tackling the many thorny issues of transplanting a German bakery concept to the US.


Guglhupf Bakery & Patisserie opened in its current location in November of 1998 to enthusiastic customers. In September of 2004 doors opened to the long anticipated Guglhupf Caf in its architecturally unique building adjacent to the bakery. Another chapter had begun


In 2023, marking 25 years of serving her loyal customers, Claudia decided to change focus and sold to current owner, Sean Scott. Coming from a long history of cultivating food and beverage spaces, Sean seemed like the perfect fit to continue the established culinary tradition and excellence that Guglhupf is known for.
