At Space Age Recycle Solutions ( SARS Recycling ) we pride ourselves on not contributing to the landfill. In fact our corporate vision is for a landfill free environment. We have been audited and certified as a zero waste stream supplier by Pure Environmental Solutions. This means that none of our hazardous electronic waste reaches a landfill, anywhere in the world. Since our establishment in 1990, at customer request, we can track where equipment goes by serial number and can provide that information to our customer.



Two years ago it was possible to pick up electronic items at no charge to the customer. Now, with increases in the amount of recycling and the erosion of market price due to an over supply of electronics it is impossible to recycle electronics environmentally without incurring a significant costs. An example is the $18 it costs to remove the five to six pounds of lead from the PC monitor.



If your recycler is picking up electronics for free, you have to wonder how they are offsetting this cost. Most likely they don't. Many of these recyclers are packing container loads of electronic equipment destined for Asia where environmental laws are lax and environmental restrictions are poorly enforced. Workers in these developing countries are being exposed to hazardous waste created in more developed countries. Donating to charity puts an undue financial responsibility on the not for profit organization; thus, these donations may very well end up on a container going overseas.
