Heat Rate-The term "heat rate" refers to a power plant's efficiency in converting fuel to electricity.  In the retail market it represents the fundamental relationship between the price of natural gas and the price of electricity.  Heat rate contracts allow customers to establish long-term relationships with suppliers without locking into a fixed rate.  Whether or not  heat rate products are a good option for your company depends on your company's outlook on natural gas prices and your tolerance for risk.


Demand Response- Most Texas companies have the ability to receive significant financial incentives for agreeing to curtail their electricity consumption during times of peak demand.  By voluntarily reducing your electricity consumption during peak usage periods, utilities are better able to meet peak demands.  Participation in these programs enable utilities to avoid brownout conditions for which they willing to provide financial incentives.  Companies who currently have, or are considering installing, back-up generation, are excellent fits for demand response programs.
