I was hesitant to make a post, because I truly liked Dr. Reath. I had a breast lift and augmentation to correct sagging from nursing, in December of 2018. At my 6 month post-op, Dr. Reath looked at them, and informed me that my right implant had slipped out of the pocket and he would need to correct it, and while he was in there he wanted to improve the left one as well. I agreed, and was very thankful that he caught that something wasn’t right, as I had not. About a month after the second surgery, I noticed that the right implant had slipped out again, and he agreed that we needed to a third surgery in order to correct it. My three surgeries were all within a year of each other. After the final surgery, I came back for all of my post ops, but had some concerns with the right one again at the 6 month post op appointment. It still didn’t feel correct, and i was still having some pain. He assured me that it looked perfect, and told me because of the issues I had previously, it would take a bit longer to completely heal. He told me that I didn’t need to come back again unless there was an issue. I said ok, and was on my way. So, I was discharged in May of 2020. Over the next few months I noticed that it was again coming out of pocket, but I didn’t want to be a bother, since he had fixed it three times before at no cost to me. My husband urged me to go back, saying that it was his responsibility to fix it, and that that’s what a reputable surgeon would do. So, I finally went back in March of 2021. I was completely dismissed and was told it looked completely normal to him. I told him that the right breast was uncomfortable unless I wore a bra with underwire in it, and that it felt like it had slipped out. He told me that maybe from the scarring it was just irritating the muscle, and that he could remove them and put them on top of the muscle to try and fix it. I didn’t like the idea of another surgery that might go wrong, so I asked- Dr. Reath what if we just took them out completely and lift them up (since obviously they would be sagging from the weight of the implant if he just took them out). His response- so you’re saying you are over them? To which I responded, no- but I don’t want to continue to keep having surgeries. He said, ok well we could do either of those, but we will need to be fair to both of us, so there will be a charge. He left and his nurse came in and gave me two different quotes one for each of my options. I left, got in my car and cried the whole way home. I decided to get a second opinion, I went to see another doctor and she told me it had definitely slipped out. After her, I went to Charlotte to get a 3rd opinion from another plastic surgeon- he looked at it, and said- I don’t like to say anything negative about other surgeons, but I can say for a fact that this one has bottomed out.
From the moment I met Dr. Reath I liked his bedside manner, and I felt like he truly cared. I appreciated the fact that he fixed the issues 3 times free of charge, I understand that he probably lost money on me with 3 surgeries. But I also should’ve gotten what I paid for! I’m out $10,000 not to count all the coming back and forth for appointments and post ops and all the downtime I had to take AND my right breast looks awful! I’m embarrassed just as much by what they look like now, as I was before the surgeries.

I used to love this place. I still think Jill is the best injector in the area and the reception people are very nice. The problem is Botox pricing. Doing it by the area instead of by the unit? Fine. Charging for touch ups that used to be free? Not fine. Taking 3 weeks to get an appointment? Also, not fine. So guess I will be looking for a new place. Any suggestions?

Lisa, Thank you for your review. I agree that Jill is a very skilled injector. Unfortunately that also makes her a very busy injector. We value you as a patient and want to do our best to get you scheduled in a timely fashion. If you will please call or email Jill directly, she will come up with a plan going forward to resolve your issues. All the best, David B. Reath, MD

I was denied even a consultation. I was given an excuse that he performs the procedure...just not for me. I attempted to seek a solid, explanation as to why just to be insulted. If a practice limits who they Service then that should be stated so on their website. Other cosmetic surgeons do this very same procedure yet Dr. Reath and his staff choose to discriminate. My attorney will be contacting them for an official statement before filing our complaint. It's time to treat everyone equal or admit your bigoted reasoning in a court of law. This injustice will not be tolerated nor left unaddressed.
Re: I was denied even a consu ... David Reath, MD Knoxville Plastic Surgeon replied on Monday, June 22nd 2020

Kris, As my staff explained, the procedure you requested is not one that I perform in men. Men and women are very different anatomically and require different approaches even on similar areas of the body. As I have no training or experience in the procedure you requested, it is unwise for me to operate on you. This is not discrimination. This is wanting the best for patients in guiding them to seek care with surgeons who have experience in what they are seeking. That only makes sense. Gender reassignment surgery is a very specialized part of plastic surgery. It is a process involving counseling, hormone therapy and, lastly, surgery. Every step of this process should be performed by a team of experts with considerable experience. It should not be done piece meal, and there are no shortcuts. This is the only way to do this correctly, and to provide the best care for patients seeking this. The surgeon that my staff recommended is a colleague whom I know well and one of the leaders in this field. You have his name, and he would take excellent care of you. All the best, David B. Reath, MD
