Add ReviewBack in 1964, a railroad engineer named Bill Horrell Sr. started the business with a $1,000 loan and dreams of sending his kids to college. With that initial investment, he opened a catalog showroom in Belle Vernon, selling just about any household item you could think of. He named it Mar-Bill after his children Margaret and Bill Jr. Bill Sr. achieved his dream of sending his kids to college, and built a lasting legacy. His daughter chose a career in medicine, and Bill Jr. chose to work in the retail business with his father. Over time, as catalog showrooms lost popularity, the business evolved several times until Bill Jr. took a liking to the jewelry portion of the business and they decided to dedicate a separate location to jewelry alone. This location began to flourish while big retailers like Walmart caused a decline in the household goods. They made a choice to shift their focus completely onto jewelry and MarBill Diamonds & Jewelry was (re)born.
Bill Sr.'s legacy is carried on by his son, Bill and his daughter-in-law Linda. Working alongside Bill & Linda are their son, Mike and their two daughters-in-law Kylie and Alexa. While transitioning into strictly jewelry, Bill & Linda were struck by the vast amount of technical information surrounding the jewelry industry, so they dedicated themselves to learning as much as they could about jewelry and they haven't stopped yet. Linda is a GIA Graduate Gemologist, Mike is a GIA Graduate Jeweler, and nearly everyone on staff at the store has some level of GIA training. Everyone at MarBill's has a passion for jewelry and people. The current store is just off route 70 in Belle Vernon and houses a full-service jewelry repair shop, a computer aided design workstation, and 30 showcases of designer and house made jewelry. Stop in and see what a tenacious and hardworking man made of a small loan and a whole lot of guts.
