Very quiet and quaint place to get away from it all. Gorgeous view and you can't beat the hospitality. Thanks for letting us stay.

An acquittance suggested I and my disabled mother stay at this hotel. We couldn't stay here, however. Sadly, this hotel has zero ADA compliant rooms. While I'm aware that we are living in selfish, hateful times, it's still a shame that some people think it's ok to discriminate against the disabled.

I've stayed at this hotel many times over the past 20 years. While the hotel doesn't have any TVs, phones or cell phone reception, and the internet signal is at best weak and spotty, I had always been drawn back by the hotel's quirky, "hippie" charm, and the very sweet and kind owners.
Unfortunately, this hotel now has new owners, and much of the charm seems to have departed. While the new owners are basically polite, they are very business-like and lack the charm and friendliness of the previous owners. Gone is the "No Hummers Allowed" sign that was previously displayed in front. Recent repairs look to have been done sloppily by unskilled hands. An electric robot is constantly mowing the lawn (the previous owners used a hand mower). The furniture is in need of replacement. Basic tools are missing in the kitchenettes.
To me, the most important and endearing aspects of Ocean Haven now seem to be gone. If you are looking for a basic, run of the mill roadside motel, Ocean Haven will fit that bill. For the high cost of the rooms, however, I'd recommend other local establishments.

Hello Alexander, I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Ocean Haven. We recently installed a Google Mesh network. We had multiple people staying here using the internet for zoom meetings and classes without issue, including three college students taking classes simultaneously. Sometimes the router needs to be rebooted - usually a guest will alert us if their internet is slow and we can reboot. Just about everybody can get phone reception over wifi these days. I'm also sorry that you didn't like us. We have found that people prefer less interaction because of COVID. Sorry that did not work for you. It's been a weird year. We agree with you about some of the outdated handcrafted furniture made by local craftspeople that you used to find charming. We have already ordered a new style of bed and recliners subject to COVID delays. (Edit - half of them arrived, yay!) Still, then we get complaints from the other old-timers that they don't like changes. We have done a full inventory of all the utensils in every room and think everything is there and we will check it as a matter of course, now. We realize the property has to be maintained and run like a business to survive for all the hundreds of people who still love it here. We try our best to find skilled craftspeople in the area. I'm sure if the fine local folks who worked on repairs read this, they will be disappointed that you were so displeased. If we knew who you were, we could work harder to resolve your complaints about your stay at a place everybody else universally calls magical, still. Most roadside motels don't have L.L. Bean sheets, Pendleton Blankets, 8 types of unlimited Tazo Teas, unlimited Starbucks coffee, walking sticks, binoculars, books, spotless rooms, or fabulous panoramic cliffside oceanfront views. Finally, we use natural and recycled products and anybody who works here is paid a living wage, which produces people who are so happy to try to make your stay as comfortable. That little robot mower is nice and quiet and doesn't walk back and forth in front of your view So sorry you didn't enjoy yourself. We hope you can find another cozy cliffside oceanfront inn you enjoy with parking lot signs and lawn mowing methods you approve of and people you like in your future.

Loved it! So beautiful and comfortable. The cabin was so cute. We loved the cat Lola. She hangs outside. Lots of hummingbirds getting nectar out of the pretty purple flowers in front of our windows l. So peaceful. I recommend this place to everyone.

Thank-you so much. We love our patrol cat and are amazed at how many people do too. The purple flowers are called Hebes.

Just returned from three nights in the Northview. Due to Covid19 we had to cancel all our travel plans this year, so it was very special to have a little get-away. I even found a spot to set up my little loom and weave!
PROS: Amazing views, super clean, everything you need for a comfortable stay. The room was the quietest I've ever stayed in - we never heard another guest or any sound from Hwy 101. We appreciated the steps taken to be eco-friendly (composting, recyling, great hair and body products in the shower), the little touches like binoculars, tons of battery operated lights in case of a power outage, walking sticks in the closet, books and local resources.
CONS: Only a couple small things...when they say the wifi is "spotty" take that seriously! We had almost no wifi and no Verizon cell except for a random moment about once a day when texts would show up on our phones. Pillows are meh. But hotel pillows are always pretty awful so that's not unusual.
Clearly the owners care and are creative souls because it's just a perfect retreat from the views, to the great decor and stone bathroom, to the well maintained stairs/trail to the beach.

Hi Karen, Thanks for your review. On October 15, 2020, Pioneer Telephone finally upgraded our internet speeds and installed two fabulous mesh wifi networks such that there are no longer any wifi dead zones anywhere in the building or in the cabin. Additionally, wifi is now available on both decks, in the parking lot, and halfway down the path to the beach. We will look into the pillow situation as well. We have a variety of type of pillows hard soft and medium in the rooms between the beds and daybeds in hopes everybody can find 'their' pillow. Update: we have replaced half the pillows in North View with a different firmness. We are glad you found the rest of what Ocean Haven has to offer. A biologist cleaned your room, she will be very happy you noticed!

This place is magical. Eco friendly, wonderful craftsman beauty, amazing view, and a friendly neighbor cat I ran into on the grounds. It has it all.
