Neuromas

A neuroma is an inflamed nerve that runs between the metatarsal bones. The bones can pinch the nerve and cause pain, numbness, or burning. A planar callus is a buildup of hard skin on the ball on the front underside of the foot. This can feel like a stone bruise.

TREATMENT: the treatment approach varies according to the severity of the problem. In mild cases, shoe ware and orthotic may alleviate some pain. In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.

THERE IS AN ANSWER OTHER THAN SURGERY!
We have a non-surgical treatment of injecting a sclerosing agent to ablate the nerve. This is done (1-2) times a week for a series of (7-10) injections. We first use a computerized needle injection machine to initially numb the area, which feels like a small hair being plucked out. After the area is numb, then the injection is given.

Signs and Symptoms

————————————————————————————————————————

Hammertoes

There are variations of hammertoes.

Flexible hammertoes are when one or more toes curl or bend abnormally. This can cause the affected area to develop painful corns from toes rubbing inside the shoe.

Rigid hammertoes are fixed, not flexible. The toe joint is buckled and cannot be straightened. The affected area can develop a painful corn and loss of function.

CURLED FIFTH TOE is a curled fifth toe. The fifth toe curls inward and under the next toe in the more serve cases. This can cause the affected area to develop painful corns from toes rubbing inside the shoe.

TREATMENTS: There is a variety of treatments for hammertoes depending on severity. These treatments vary from conservative; such as orthotic, to more invasive procedures, such a minimal incision or surgical correction with or without implant.

Bunions

A bunion is a bony bump often found near the joint at the base of the big toe. They may cause swelling, pain, and skin irritation. Bunions vary from mild to severe. When the distance between the first and second metatarsal bones is greater than normal, the big toe can turn toward the other toes. A mild bunion can then form. A severe bunion is when the distance between the first and second metatarsal bones is at a greater angle and even making the toe turn and buckle over the other toes. This can cause foot pain and swelling.

TAYLOR’S BUNION A Taylor’s bunion is a bony bump often found near joint of the 5th metatarsal that causes pain, swelling, and skin irritation.

TREATMENTS: There is a variety of treatments for bunions depending on severity. These treatments vary from conservative; such as orthotic, to more invasive procedures, such as a surgery with or without implant.

Plantar Fasciitis

The Plantar fascia is a tough band of tissue running from the heel to the ball of the foot. Pain and swelling (inflammation) of this band is called plantar fasciitis. A bone spur can also cause it. HEEL PAIN on the bottom of the foot upon rising in the morning. This also occurs after you stand up after resting or after standing or walking for long periods.

THERE IS AN ANSWER OTHER THAN SURGERY!
We have a non-surgical treatment of injecting a sclerosing agent to ablate the nerve on the inside of the heel. This is done (1-2) times a week for a series of (7-10) injections. We first use a computerized needle injection machine to initially numb the area, which feel like a small hair being pluck out. After the area is numb, then the injection is given.

————————————————————————————————————————

Calluses

The formation of calluses is caused by an accumulation of dead skin cells that harden and thicken over an area of the foot. The formation of a callus is the body’s way of protecting itself. Most calluses are normally found on the ball-of-the-foot, the hell, the outside of the big toe and/or the inside or the top of the toes. These are generally caused from bone problems inside the foot.

These are some possible causes for the callusing.

Example:
Ball-of-the-foot (see neuromas)
Hells (see plantar fasciitis)
Outside to big toe (see bunion)
Inside toe or on top of toe (see hammertoes)

Corn
