About Peter T Haugen, Ph.D.
Welcome to my private practice. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist practicing in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. I work primarily with adults and adolescents in individual psychotherapy.
In addition to my private practice, I serve on the Clinical Faculty at the NYU School of Medicine and on staff at Bellevue Hospital Center, where I work in the NYU/Bellevue World Trade Center Medical Monitoring and Treatment Program. I am also actively involved in the training of psychology interns in psychotherapy and psychological testing as part of the Faculty of the NYU/Bellevue Clinical Psychology Internship Training Program and in the training of psychology externs as the track coordinator in trauma psychology of the Bellevue Psychology Externship Program.
I have received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tennessee, an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College, and B.A.'s in Psychology and in Religious Studies from the University of California, Davis. I completed my pre-doctoral internship training at NYU/Bellevue in New York City.

In my private practice, I work primarily with adults and adolescents within a psychodynamic model of psychotherapy. The goal of this kind of treatment is an easing of emotional distress as quickly as possible. It's achieved in part by helping clients develop deeper self-understanding and self-mastery and leaving them better able to live realistically, productively, and joyfully.
Treatment with me typically consists of a series of 50 minute sessions at least once a week. The length of treatment is based on a client's specific situation and goals and is therefore highly individualized.
