He is admitted to practice in Michigan and Florida, as well as the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Very few attorneys in Michigan are also members of The Florida Bar.

Along with his own practice, Mr. Richey is also considered “of counsel” to one of the most prestigious construction law firms in Michigan, Deneweth, Dugan & Parfitt, P.C. With this designation, Mr. Richey works with the firm in a variety of matters throughout all of Northern Michigan.

In 2008, Mr. Richey was named to the “Rising Stars” list by Michigan Super Lawyers magazine, an honor that recognizes the top 2.5% of all attorneys under the age of 40 in Michigan.

Avvo, an online attorney rating system, currently rates Mr. Richey as “excellent”, and one of the highest rated attorneys in Traverse City.

Mr. Richey was named to the “40 Under 40″ list by the Traverse City Business News in its 2008, 2009, and 2010 editions. The list annually identifies the 40 most influential people under the age of 40 in the Grand Traverse region.

In addition, Mr. Richey is a trained Collaborative Divorce Attorney, and was a founding member of the Up North Collaborative Divorce Professionals, a group of attorneys, child specialists, divorce coaches, and financial advisors in the Traverse City area who are dedicated to providing a Collaborative Divorce option in Northern Michigan.

Mr. Richey previously served as a Case Evaluator for the 13th Judicial Circuit Court, and also was a Governor for the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association’s Board of Directors, as well as its Law Day Chairman.

When he’s not practicing law, Mr. Richey teaches Business Law at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City.

A civic-minded individual, Mr. Richey was a Planning Commissioner for Leelanau County’s Elmwood Township from 2007 to 2010. In that regard, he was also one of five individuals selected by the Elmwood Township Board to serve on the Greilickville Harbor Park Task Force, a group charged with the job of soliciting and incorporating public opinion into the final design of the Park’s capital improvement project, which was completed in 2010.

He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Section, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan, the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce, and Business Network International.
