I have found that dryer vent cleaning can be done by the home owners. But as a technician, I have equipment that can go deep into the vents to remove all of the lint off the wall of the ducts.
What do I clean with?
Dryer vents are cleaned with HEPA vacuum with rods and rotary brush. I use the HEPA vacuum to prevent any dust flying when cleaning. I vacuum from either in the laundry room by the dryer duct or outside by the terminated vent.

Visually inspect the condition of the vent between the dryer and exhaust pipe to make sure the opening is properly vented, Run the dryer to allow me to evaluate the outside terminated vents air flow with my ananometer (measures air flow speed), Clean the lint out of the terminated vent to bring damper back to normal position , Run the HEPA vacuum using rotary brush and rods to clean the vent wall at least two times, After rodding, I will vacuum and brush the interior of the dryer and the lint catcher area to prolong the life of the dryer, Clean up the surrounding area to remove dirt and lint, Reposition the dryer to exhaust vent for better air flow , After cleaning, I will re-measure the air flow to make sure the venting is flowing properly, Next appointment will be complimentary inspection to make sure everything is working.
