I look back on how I got to be a battle tested and successful Denver DUI and drunk driving criminal lawyer. Here is my journey in fulfilling my father's and my dream of being a DUI and drunk driving defense lawyer, and in time a great human being, working to help the little people fight the powers to be (corporate and government)... As a child I had a deep sense of right and wrong. I always felt the pain and anguish of the weakest and most vulnerable members of society. As a kid my dad would take me to the Courts in India. I never really understood why my father was always fighting with people - he was always in court. (later on in life I realized that my father was the little guy always getting the short end of the stick by the big shots). I realized that I must be the very best lawyer and serve the best interests of my clients by getting them the results they deserve in a cost effective and timely manner. In my late teens, my father died and I had to fend for myself with some help from my mother and siblings. I knew that I had to get a solid education to make something with my life. I graduated with a Masters from a premier University in India. A few years later, I was admitted to practice as a chartered accountant. I worked in India and then in Dubai (U.A.E.) for several years gaining insights into people and their conduct. I also gained financial expertise during these years as an accountant and auditor. In 1988, I immigrated to Denver and worked for a reputed jazz club gaining valuable business experience. I qualified as a Colorado CPA, CMA; CIA; and CBA. In 1991, for family reasons, I moved to L.A. and worked for a large Cellular Telephone Company. I saw first-hand how large corporations legally dominated and subjugated the helpless-through artful drafting of one-sided legal documents. I knew this was unfair and decided to go out on my own. In 1994, I established my tax practice and in 1999 I was admitted to the U. S. Tax Court. On being a licensed in Colorado and Wyoming, I worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado prosecuting all types of criminal cases for years. The experience and training I received as a Prosecutor enables me to fully understand how a prosecutor's mind works and talk the same language as the police and prosecutor which greatly benefits the criminal defense clients. AS a DUI and drunk driving prosecutor I successfully prosecuted thousands of DUI and drunk driving cases. I even successfully completed the Prosecutor's Drunk Driving School and the Standardized Sobriety Tests Training School. I know and understand these tests and how to successfully challenge the results of these tests. In 2005, I established Iyer Law Office, LLC, with a fistful of dollars and struggled the first two years but gained tremendous experience and insights into defending the accused. I gained the trust and respect of my clients, the prosecutors, the judges, and my peers. In a short period a time, I gained the trust of the community and now have a successful DUI and drunk driving defense law practice. Since 2008, the Colorado State Court Administrator's Office appointed me to represent parents in dependency and neglect cases within the 13th Judicial District. In 2008, I successfully completed the Juvenile Trial Skills program of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. In 2009, the National Criminal Defense College admitted me, on a scholarship, to attend their most prestigious residential trial training program (over 2 weeks) where I was trained by the most pre-eminent of trial lawyers in the country. In 2010, The NACDL offered me a scholarship to attend their Super Defenses and the Sex Crimes Defenses Seminars.
