About O'Connor Mortuary

What makes us Unique?

Family Owned
In a region dominated by huge chains and multi-national conglomerates, we've remained proudly independent for over a century. We are accountable to you and our community, not to outside interests.  We respect your right to make your own choices in this most delicate of matters without undo pressure or influence. You can expect honest help and straight answers from our compassionate staff.

Convenience
Our Laguna Hills Chapel and Crematory, as well as our Irvine and San Juan Capistrano Arrangement Centers offer 3 locations convenient to you, your family, and friends.

Crematory
For the peace of mind of families who prefer cremation, we own and operate our own crematory located at our Laguna Hills facility, a facility used exclusively for our families. Our standards are higher than what the state of California requires and the highest of any mortuary in our region. Unlike cremation societies, we keep your loved one in our personal care throughout the entire process. For more detailed information, please see page ? of this brochure.

Personalized Service
Our caring professionals will listen to your needs and provide suggestions, then organize and carry out a ceremony that is not only comforting, but appropriately memorializes your loved one and begins the healing process. We can help design a uniquely  personalized service, a traditional service, or a simple ceremony. Every staff member is empowered to do whatever it takes to serve your family well.

Plan well . . . Live well
We are all constantly reminded to plan well for our future when it comes to health insurance, life insurance, and home insurance, but too often families neglect to insure that their loved ones will be spared the painful obligation of making countless funeral decisions at the last moment. You can spare your loved ones that emotional effort, as well as save money, by pre-planning your own funeral arrangements. Our staff is here to help, and for your convenience, we will meet with you in the privacy of your own home.

Options
We provide more options than any other mortuary because we serve a varied clientèle who have come to expect the best. We have created a wide variety of service plans to make it easier for you to choose, and we offer the largest selection of memorial products and service enhancements. We can customize for any faith-based preference you may have, and we can also customize services for military veterans and  assist you in obtaining all of the benefits accorded an honorably-discharged veteran.

Price and Value
Through our Quality Assurance Survey, our families continue to tell us that the value in our services far exceeds their investment, thanks to the extraordinary healing experience and personal memorialization of their loved one. We strive to exceed each family's expectations and make the ceremony worthy of their loved one.

Aftercare
This  unique service, which only we provide, is offered to you and your family at no charge. Our staff will meet with you soon after your service to help you complete necessary documents such as insurance forms, ownership transfers, social security forms, veteran benefits and much more. Services O'Connor Mortuary Offers

The Value of Ceremony
The most valuable things in life are the relationships we have forged, the places we've been, and the experiences we've made. Bringing our family, friends, and communities together to celebrate occasions like birthdays, graduations, weddings, and anniversaries not only reflects how much the people in our lives are loved, but also honors that specific moment in time. We also recognize that meaningful ceremonies at the death of a loved one are just as important. Celebrating the life of a loved one who has passed and mourning their death will offer you and your family and friends an opportunity to say goodbye, bringing much needed comfort and support and helping move you through the grief process to begin the journey of healing.

Why Have a Service?
Dr. Willam Hoy, our grief and educational consultant, agrees that gathering with family, friends, and faith to commemorate a loved one's life provides a powerful picture of community support in the difficult task of saying goodbye. The early days are usually chaotic, even when the death was expected. The organized support of a service helps give words, symbols, and actions to our grief, and helps bond together those who have experienced the loss. In turn, the gathering becomes an important turning point of starting life anew, even though it is the very last thing on our minds.

Designing Your Service
We will assist you in designing a service experience that will fulfill the unique emotional, relational, and spiritual needs of each generation of your family and community of friends. We want to meet your needs now, and in the future. After all, you will need to live with these decisions for a lifetime. Doing the right thing now can make all the difference in your peace of mind through the coming years. The possibilities are inspiring and virtually endless.

A Viewing:
An open casket viewing is a very personal choice. If chosen, it can be either public or private, depending on what your family prefers. Often, a family's last memory of their loved one was in a hospital or nursing home setting, which can be a very chaotic and negative environment. We have found that most families who ponder having a viewing end up telling us they are glad they made this an option for their family and friends. With proper preparation and a tranquil setting, your last viewing can be peaceful and bring much comfort.

Your Ceremony
Coming together in a formal funeral service setting, or a simple, more relaxed memorial service, gives your family and friends the chance to share memories, express their emotions, and find comfort and support in one another. Whether you choose burial or cremation, the need to come together and share the loss is ever present. Every person is unique and therefore, we believe each service should be unique. We respect and honor your family's values and circumstances, personal beliefs, as well as all faith traditions. Our staff will help you clarify what unique aspects of your loved one's life should receive the most prominent emphasis in the service you design. With so many options to choose from, we take extra care to explain each and every feature.

Burial or Cremation
Now that you've thought about the most appropriate service to honor your loved one's life, your next decision is to choose between burial or cremation. Many people already know the answer, but it can be a sticking point for some families, especially when the wishes of the deceased were never clearly stated. Please know we are able to help you come to a comfortable decision for everyone.
Once this decision is made, the finer points become clearer. If you've chosen burial, then selection of the casket, vault, and cemetery of interment follows. If cremation is your choice, then you'll want to make the decision as to whether the cremated remains will be placed in a mausoleum niche, buried in a cemetery of your choice, scattered at sea or on land, or kept in your private possession.

Veterans' Services:  A Special Decision
Paying tribute to our Veterans is a tremendous responsibility and one that we hold in high esteem. With an honorable discharge from the military, each veteran is entitled to a burial at no charge in a National Cemetery, a standard marker, a US flag, and an Honor Guard. However, you may choose burial at a private cemetery, perhaps among other family members, and a custom marker rather than the standard military marker. The government does not reimburse for private burials, though. Our staff will give you full and complete information on all of your options, which will include Veteran Memorial products such as caskets and urns, memorial books and folders, flag cases, and flower arrangements. We will also explain the Federal Government benefits due every veteran. We will insure that you honor the veteran in your family in a manner that provides the greatest comfort to you.

Your Graveside Service
A Graveside Service can be anything from an intimate, private family gathering, to a larger public ceremony. You may choose to have a traditional service with a graveside ceremony, choose a private graveside service with a memorial service afterward, or a graveside ceremony only. This type of ceremony can include special music (live or CD), a bagpiper, a dove, butterfly, or balloon release, and military honors.

Some families come to us and have already purchased cemetery property. Others may still need to make that decision. We have established relationships with all area cemeteries and are able to help you find a cemetery that best meets your needs. We are here to assist you in making this a meaningful event for your family and friends.

Green Burial
Green burial has come to be understood as end-of-life rituals, disposition options, and products that do not involve the use of toxic chemicals or non-biodegradable materials. In other words, it is a burial that does not involve embalming with hazardous chemicals, metal caskets, or concrete burial vaults. Green burial uses less energy and creates less waste than conventional burial. It is in essence the way most human civilizations cared for their dead for thousands of years up until the late 19th century. We are Southern California's first mortuary to be approved as a Green Burial Service Provider by the Green Burial Council.

Memorial Products

We offer the largest selection of memorial products anywhere in order to assist you in creating the kind of ceremony you desire. All of our memorial products are guaranteed, and our staff will explain the differences between each and the reasons we can save you time and money. This will insure the choice you make meets both your need and your budget.

Caskets
We proudly carry only high quality metal and wood caskets from Aurora Casket Company. With metal caskets, you can choose between bronze, copper, stainless steel, or sealed metal. With wood caskets you can choose from mahogany, cherry, oak, or pine. We also offer Rental Caskets (Cherry or Oak) for those families who prefer cremation and are planning for a viewing or funeral ceremony. Our staff can help you in comparing and making your selection.

Vaults
The purpose of a burial vault is twofold. The first is to provide structural integrity and prevent the grave from settling. The second is to protect the grave from water and other damaging natural earth elements. Both of these features insure that the property and casket are shielded from damage, thereby preserving the integrity of the burial site.

Basic Vault (unsealed)
The basic concrete vault features a concrete base and a one-piece lid. Although not a sealed protective unit, it does meet the minimum requirement for all cemeteries.

Lined Vault (sealed)
Designed for families who wish a more permanent protective vault, lined vaults are constructed with a combination of concrete cores and protective inner lining materials, ranging from plastic to copper or bronze, for the maximum protection available. A lined Vault is designed to protect the grave from water and other damaging natural earth elements.

We are pleased to offer a selection of vaults for casket interment. For those families who prefer cremation with ground burial, we carry a wide variety of urn vaults as well.

Markers
We offer a selection of granite and bronze markers for you to choose from. These can range from a basic design to a more customized marker which includes a color photo tile, guaranteed for the life of the marker. In addition, both the basic and customized markers can include a beveled edge or a LMP (lawn mower proof). You may also opt for a concrete border that frames the marker.

Urns
We offer a wide variety of urn types and designs. Our selection includes, metal, stone, wood, and biodegradable materials, as well some unique designs created by local artists. In addition, we have Keepsake Urns and jewelry specifically designed to hold a small portion of cremated remains or lock of hair.

Flowers
The flowers you choose are another important feature of your service. Whether your ceremony includes a specific theme, or a loved one's favorite flower, our expert designer will meet with you to coordinate each and every arrangement. Your family and friends will also have the convenience of ordering on-line through our website. We guarantee that your flowers and plants will be fresh, arrive on time, and that you pay no wire-to-wire or delivery fees.

Paper Memorial Products
O'Connor Mortuary offers an excellent selection of paper memorial products. The Guest Register Book provides a history of those in attendance the day of the service. Each book also offers matching Memorial Folders and Thank You Cards with envelopes. If you prefer, we can create a customized Memorial Folder that includes a color photograph of your loved one, meaningful thoughts or poems, the order of service, and special acknowledgments. We also have a wide selection of standard religious Prayer Cards, or we can customize a Prayer Card with a photograph as well.
