Dr. William James Tidwell is a fellowship trained Mohs surgeon and dermatologist specializing in skin cancer, veins, and cosmetics. He attended the University of Tennessee medical school where he received the faculty medal for highest academic standing in his class. He was chief resident at the University of Louisville. He also did cosmetic training with Dr. Tina Alster at the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery as a resident. After residency, he continued his medical education at the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Clinic near San Diego, California where he completed a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology under Dr. Hugh Greenway, a surgeon who learned Mohs surgery from Dr. Mohs himself. His training included extensive laser and cosmetic experience with international laser expert and physicist Dr. Vic Ross. Dr. Tidwell was also fellowship trained by Dr. Leland Housman in venous and lymphatic medicine. Dr. Tidwell is dual board certified in dermatology and venous and lymphatic medicine. He has been passionate about Mohs surgery because it improves the chance of complete skin cancer removal with less scarring and uses only local numbing. He also wants to help those who are in discomfort and pain from damaged leg veins using innovative techniques that avoid large scars and are covered by most insurances. He knows the effect of taking care of one's appearance and skin can help with confidence and self-esteem and is grateful to be able to serve Orange County.
