The Food Pantry of Wasilla was founded in 1989 as a ministry of Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church in Wasilla to provide emergency food to people in our community. In 1992, we became a member of the Valley Christian Conference and organized under the guidance of a board of directors. On March 24, 1994 we became registered as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
In October 2005 the Food Pantry of Wasilla expanded to include The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in its distribution. As a result, there are now food distributions we handle:

A community based donation program
The federal TEFAP program, a USDA program

In 2013, we became the Mat-Su Food Bank, the only valley-wide food bank feeding families and children, and we are now able to also help supply smaller pantries.

Additionally we are home for the Mat-Su Food4Kids program. The Mat-Su Food4Kids program has been feeding hungry children right here in the MatSu since 2010. Our goal is to make sure no child goes hungry!
