This place tried to rip my husband off by quoting him $800+ for a deep cleaning without explaining to us that they are out of my husband's dental network. It took us some time to learn about this from calling different dental offices and one office was kind enough to explain to us how dentists not working at dental insurance's rates work. We take your insurance is completely different from we charge at your insurance's rates! While they explained the procedure and prices, I asked them why it was so expensive since we paid for deep cleaning at another dentist at a much lower (and more reasonable) out-of-pocket cost, and the woman did not bring up the fact that the office is out of network. They took my husband's insurance, so I didn't think it was necessary to check. They also wanted us to pay them all upfront to schedule an appointment. That seems crazy to me. My husband's initial appointment/exam also took a long time (about one and a half hour, and just for an exam, no cleaning was done), most of that was waiting for the doctor to come see him after the assistant prepped him for the doctor. I'm so thankful to find another office where I don't have any of these issues. Hate the lack of transparency and the lack of respect to customer's time.

We understand that some patients top priority is to pay the least amount of out of pocket costs for any needed procedure. We are glad you were able to find an in network provider who could take care of you at a lower price that works with your budget . We pride ourselves on offering an elevated level of care that is not often found with your contracted provider. We are not in network with any insurance provider however we accept and file all PPO insurance for our patients. We invest in the newest technology, new instruments, and upgraded facilities, and training for our staff to create a premium experience for our patients, and acknowledge that we are not the least expensive place to have your dentistry done. We compete on many levels but price is not one. Our prices are not the highest in area, they are slightly above the median. We believe that the service that we provide at the price is a great value to our patients and you will see most of our patients agree if you take the time to read the more than three thousand 5 star reviews.

I used to go there for some time but lately I have seen a decline in the level they provided service and hence a bit disappointed. I believe the staff, primarily the claims dept, at Austin Laser Dentist - Helen Ragsdale DDS, has more or less, an ethical issue where they perform the service, miss filing a claim (or forget filing a claim) with the insurance and then send a hefty bill to the client. I have heard from many of my friends, who visit this office with the same concerns. The problem is, the staff never accepts that they dropped the ball and forgot to reach out to the insurance provider, and apologize to the client, rather their response is, as a human gesture, they will file the claim and make a one time exception. I am not sure if the staff shrinks an inch if they apologize for the unnecessary trouble they cause. I myself saw a couple of transactions onto my credit card for the service with no explanation of what those charges were. Most of our friends have reached out to other (better) dental service providers in Austin and I will certainly follow their directions. To conclude, for those existing clients at Ragsdale DDS, please make sure you follow and understand evert $ these guys charge and also make sure they process your claims on time. Good luck!
