About

STARTFRESH NY (SFNY) was founded in 2004 to provide critically needed services for those who are the hardest to assist, the homeless, victims of domestic violence, gay youth, substance abuser’s the formerly incarcerated and young people who are aging out of the foster care system. We engage an extensive outreach to housing projects, community centers, homeless/domestic violence shelters and places of worship recruiting participants who are in need of our services. SFNY introduces participants to the host of resources available to aid their transition from dependence to independence. We help the individuals enrolled in our programs to learn, understand, and effectively negotiate the myriad systems that people of limited resources must navigate regularly.

Products And Services

SFNY’s employment services include, but are not limited to, life-skills training, computer literacy training, customer service training, resume preparation, mock interviews, professional clothing, and vital links to suitable employers. Through hands on workshops and seminars, we support our clients desire to finally “get a handle” on their lives. Not all participants will require the same level of intensive services. The number of service hours received by the participant will depend on the individual circumstances of the family. The clients living situation, education, skill level, job-readiness and emotional strengths are taken into consideration when constructing an individuals program. With SFNY, one size does not fit all. All SFNY participants learn to embrace their strengths, aspirations and dreams. Participants receive the help they need to get and keep a job as well as maintain a place to live.

The key to SFNY’s effectiveness, on the client side is attributed to the informed and sensitive nature of our training and the range of supports we access for our clients. Developed by founder Cheryl Moran, our program derives from Cheryl’s first-hand experience dealing with all of the systems that SFNY’s clients learn to negotiate.Over the past decade, Ms. Moran has developed a complete network of life-changing resources. She has cultivated an invaluable abundance of supporters including program administrators and employers, who are eager to work with her and support SFNY’s mission.
