"MKG is the best martial arts instruction in the Twin Cities. "Best" doesn't just mean that it's an excellent school. It means that it's the only school that is even GOOD. Minneapolis is the land of ten thousand dirty little mall dojos. The arts they teach there are sportified and useless on the street, the training methods are an outdated fantasy of some militaristic version of 1600s Korea, and the students strut around with their one-year black belts thinking they are the deadliest thing since Jean Claude Van Damme. Minnesota Kali Group teaches the most practical arts for streetfighting. The reason the arts are selected is basically by ranges: for long range fighting they teach thai boxing, for mid range they teach jun fan and the filipino art of kali, and for close range there is silat and brazilian jujitsu. The empty hand training here is second to none. Black belts at other schools treat MKG students with great respect. They do this because they know that they are paper tigers with outdated skill sets. This is not a slam, it's just true. And if you put a black belt at ANY area school in a hand weapon fight with an MKG student of half the time in grade, you will very quickly find out who really wears the pants."
